Woven and Non-Woven Reusable Shopping Bags in Kenya: Which One Fits Your Shop
A retail shop compares woven and non-woven reusable bags for its till point — cost per use, print quality and how they held up over months of daily handouts.

The situation
A mid-sized grocer in Kasarani switched from paper carrier bags to a reusable option at the till, and had to choose between woven and non-woven bags without ever having bought either before.
The challenge
The woven polypropylene sample was noticeably sturdier and clearly built for repeated grocery loads, but the printed logo on it was smaller and less vivid than on the non-woven sample, which printed almost like a poster across the full front panel. The non-woven bag felt lighter and less bulky for customers to carry folded in a handbag, but the shop worried it wouldn't survive a heavy grocery load the way the woven bag obviously would.
What they did
They ran both for a month. The woven bags outlasted the non-woven ones under heavy grocery weight, but cost noticeably more per bag, so they kept woven bags for a small paid "bag for life" option at the till, and used the cheaper, better-printed non-woven bags as a free giveaway for smaller purchases where branding reach mattered more than years of durability.
Woven bags win on durability and heavier loads; non-woven bags win on print impact and cost. Many shops end up using both, matched to the purchase size rather than picking one as a single universal answer.
