"How much is a paper bag in Kenya?" doesn't have one answer, because a small plain kraft bag and a large printed twisted-handle carrier are not the same product. What you can do is learn the five things every quote is really priced on, so two quotes become comparable.
Size and paper weight (gsm)
Bigger bags use more paper, and heavier paper (measured in gsm) costs more per bag but carries more weight without tearing. A 90gsm bag is fine for a boutique's light items; a grocer or hardware needs 120gsm or more. Always ask what gsm a quote assumes.
Handle type
Flat paper handles are cheapest. Twisted paper handles cost a little more and feel more premium. Rope or ribbon handles are the most expensive. A die-cut hole (no handle) is the cheapest of all and works well for takeaway food.
Printing
One colour in one position (usually your logo) adds a small fixed setup cost plus a little per bag. Full-colour printing across the whole bag costs materially more. Unprinted natural kraft is the cheapest way to still look intentional.
Order quantity
This is the big one. Setup costs (printing plates, machine setup) are spread across your whole order, so 200 bags carry a much higher per-bag cost than 2,000. If a price looks high, ask what quantity it was quoted at before assuming it's expensive.
Lead time and delivery
A rush job costs more. Delivery outside Nairobi adds a courier line. Neither is hidden — but both belong in the comparison when you line up two suppliers side by side.
In short
Ask every supplier for the same spec — size, gsm, handle, print, quantity — and the prices suddenly make sense. A cheap bag that tears at the till is more expensive than a slightly dearer one that doesn't.
