"How much for custom packaging?" is hard to answer in one number because the cost has three separate parts. Understand them and you can brief a supplier well enough to get a real quote instead of a range.
One-off setup cost
Printing plates or screens, artwork setup and machine setup are paid once per design, regardless of whether you order 500 units or 50,000. It's why tiny orders feel expensive per unit and why changing artwork later isn't free.
Minimum order quantity (MOQ)
Every custom item has a floor quantity that makes a production run worth setting up. Ask for it early. If the MOQ is more than you can use in a year, ask about a smaller stock item with just a printed logo instead of full custom.
Per-unit price
This falls as quantity rises because setup is spread thinner and material is bought in bulk. A quote for 1,000 and a quote for 10,000 can differ enough to change what you order.
What a supplier needs from you
Item and size, material and weight, number of print colours and positions, the quantity you want priced (ask for two or three quantities), your artwork format, and your delivery location and date.
Where people overspend
Full-colour printing when a one-colour logo would do, a premium handle customers never notice, and ordering small repeatedly instead of one planned run.
In short
Brief the item, material, print and two or three quantities up front. You'll get a quote you can actually decide on, and you'll see exactly where spending more does and doesn't buy you anything.
