Gift and Hamper Packaging for Events in Kenya: A Small Business's Planning Story
A Nairobi small business plans packaging for a wedding gifting order and a festive hamper season — what she learned about ordering gift boxes and wrapping ahead of a deadline.

The situation
Achieng runs a small gifting business from Ruaka, putting together curated hampers and wedding favour boxes for clients across Nairobi.
The challenge
Her first big wedding order — 150 favour boxes needed a week before the event — nearly went wrong because she ordered the boxes at the same time as everything else, assuming a box was a box. The supplier's stock colour didn't match the couple's theme, and a custom colour needed a longer lead time than she'd left herself.
What they did
For her next event season she flipped the order: lock the box style and colour first, as early as the booking is confirmed, then build the rest of the hamper contents around what's actually available in time. For recurring festive hampers she now keeps a standard box size and ribbon colour in stock year-round, and only customises the smaller wrapping details per client — theme cards, tissue colour, a ribbon swap — rather than the box itself.
Book the packaging before the contents. A gift box or hamper carton with the wrong lead time is the one part of an event order you can't fix at the last minute.
