Cake and Pastry Boxes in Nairobi: Choosing Sizes That Fit Your Bakes
A home baker in Nairobi works out which cake and pastry box sizes to actually stock, and why buying fewer sizes in bulk beat a drawer full of odd ones.

The situation
Njeri bakes from home in Kasarani — custom cakes on weekends, cupcakes and cookies for pickup during the week, and the occasional big order for a kids' party or a baby shower.
The challenge
She'd been buying boxes reactively: a few of whatever size the shop had when she ran out. The result was a shelf of mismatched boxes, some too deep (cakes slid), some too shallow (buttercream smudged the lid), and a per-box price that was always high because she never bought more than a handful at a time.
What they did
She mapped her orders and found three sizes covered almost everything: a 6-inch square for standard cakes, a 10-inch for the big orders, and a windowed cupcake box with an insert for 6. She bought each in bulk, dropped her per-box cost, and stopped losing buttercream to lids. Odd one-off sizes she now orders only when a specific job needs them.
Stock the two or three box sizes your real order history needs, in quantity. A drawer of single odd boxes is the most expensive way to buy packaging.
